It Is a Job For the Robot!

You must believed that one day robots may rule the roads one day, but until now it only limited limited Ford test tracks.  This is because Ford had introduced a pilot program within the automaker is using robots to test the durability of Ford's new full-size Transif van family set to launch next year.  The robots drive the vehichles through accelerated high-impact on and off road test.

Before being certified for customer use, all North American Ford trucks must pass a battery of tests, run on courses filled with broken concrete, cobblestone, metal grates, rough gravel, mud pits and oversized speed bumps.  All these can be unconfortortable for human testers, neccessitating the need for the robots, Ford, in partnership with Utah-based Autonomous Solutions Inc., implemented its new technology at its Michigan Proving Grounds, where a robotic control module installed in the test vehicle can regulate steering, accelaration, and breaking.  Set to a pre-programmed course, engineers can track the vehicles's position from a central control room and have the ability to stop the truck, course correct and restart the test.

The best part of having this robot driver test is, engineers can run an unlimited number of repeat tests, until they  are satisfied with the results.
